Renkosi’s Guide on Twitter

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

I’m pleased to announce that Renkosi’s Guide is now on Twitter the social micro blogging service. I’ve been testing the service for a few days and it seems to be working fine, however for the immediate future it should be considered in beta, as I may make small changes if I notice improvements that could be made.

If you have an account on Twitter already you can follow Renkosi_News, if not you can view the latest posts via the same link. If you want to get updated when new posts appear you just need to create an account on Twitter (it is easy and free) and then visit the Renkosi_News page and click on the follow button. You can download an application to Windows, Mac and some mobile phones to get notifications automatically. If you live in the USA/Canada you can even get updates via SMS (and the service is rumored to be coming to O2 in the UK).

For each new news article posted to the news page a post is also sent to Twitter with a headline and a link direct to the article. The news page and Twitter feed are both updated every ten minutes. This means that by following Renkosi_News you can get updated as news breaks.

Don’t forget to send me tweets back to let me know what you think of the service and suggest improvements!

Renkosi.com site updated

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

I’ve updated the site today, the old Javascript site has been swept away in favor of a site that some will find easier to use. If you liked the old site, you can still access it via this link, it still works and will be updated, but the chatterbox has been disabled. The new site also lacks the chatterbox and also the ability for users to rate articles and add comments, but this should not be too much of a loss as they were never used! However I have added a great new search feature which means you can search our news archive, and fixed links to the may contain gamers blog from Codemasters.

If you have any comments send them to me using this the feedback form.

(hint: if you bookmarked the old site you will need to goto http://renkosi.com to view the new site.)

Fashion maven and dwarven architect out this weekend

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

In celebration of Bullroarer Took week Codemasters have announced that the fashion maven (complete with hobbit sidekick dressed in green) and the dwarven architect will be active in middle earth this weekend (21st-22nd of March 2009).

The fashion maven Faelheryn typically visits major population areas in middle earth (Evanna met her in Bree last year) where she starts to judge the people passing by on their fashion sense. She takes this responsibility seriously and is not afraid to give critical advice when necessary. In all cases (as far as we can see) you are awarded a new title and often a token in the post that can be exchanged for new clothes. In some cases she has been known to award a bag to put over your head! The announcement makes it clear that green clothing will be especially favoured during this week.

The dwarven architect Vaeni will also be out judging houses. You need to sign up to get you house judged by PMing a gamesmaster. If you house meets the grade you get a ‘unique trophy’ that can be placed in your garden as a reward. But only one is awarded for each neighborhood. This time the architect will be looking out for all things green, so get those walls painted and hobbit like furniture on display!

Full details of the event are on the Codemasters forum.

Bullroarer Took Day

Renkosi out in green for Bullroarer Took Day

Well we had a small party by the statue with some dancing and wall running, but there was a curious lack of the fence running activities that we all enjoyed last year. Maybe more to come a little late?

Volume 2 – Book 7 Announced

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

Turbine have announced a new free update to Mines of Moria. The latest notes come from the announcement to the test server, so there maybe a few changes before release, but we can look forward to a mix of new content, updates, and bug fixes.

My Highlights are:

  • Updates to the starting areas, which I hope will make leveling alts more fun.
  • Quest tracking on the map, which should make it easier to find some of those tricky items. That said I’ll miss the usual romp through an area full of enemies, but not running in the wrong direction…
  • 50 new quests in Lothlórien, I’ll just need to get their first!
  • Crafting instances to make it easier to find crafting resources. Again I’m not sure how relevant this is, I’ve found tier 5 scholar resources by far the easiest to find anyway, and the crafting guilds help tremendously with getting crafting XP now anyway.
  • A new 12 man raid. Eek! another one, just as long as there is plenty of coin dropped please Turbine!
  • XP curve changed. This should be good for leveling alts and new players a like, less XP will be required, so less quests needed to level a character. Whilst it means that if you only have one character more quests will be not worth doing it should make it more interesting to repeatedly play through.
  • New self revive skill. On a cool down that increases with XP, so you can’t keep popping up in place, but it does mean that some of the longer hard runs will be easier.
To read all the notes head over the lorebook.

Thanks to Merecraft for the tip.
